Crush On: 13.1

My boyfriend and I rocked the Malibu 1/2 Marathon this past weekend on early Sunday morning.  As I had shared in an earlier post:

I complete the Malibu 1/2 Marathon in sub 2 hours.

I am so freaking stoked to share with you that my official finish time was:  1:59:16

Just by seconds and I’ll count it.

What I do know is that this goal was mind over matter.  There were gnarly hills I was definitely not prepared for.  Waking up at 4am to running at almost 8am makes it tricky to gauge the perfect outfit for such temperatures near the water.  The pre-race meal, I will not even tell you what I consumed the evening before the start line.  And, did I mention the hills?

Mind over matter.  At mile 7, the 2 hour pace racers buzzed past me on an uphill.  At mile 10, I realized I could still make it.  At mile 12, I passed the 2 hour pacers coming into the finish line!

BOOM.

When it comes to rocking your goals, you have to believe 100% in yourself, even if you seem to fall behind, say at mile 7.  Believe harder.  Feel it in the depths of your body and know it to be possible.  Keep going.  Seriously, keep going.  And crush on, my friends!  Crush on!

Gratitude. Moustaches. Love.

Happy November to you and you and you!

Rocktober has closed, life has been lived and here we are, Movember uno.

Here they are, the updates:

1)  I am in the midst of training for the Malibu 1/2 Marathon!  10 days to go.  And yes, the boyfriend signed up!  Like I always say, a couple that runs together, stay together.  Or, we are just going to wing it and have the best brunch November 11 has ever seen.  Yes, the sub 2 hour goals still lives!

2)  Fall Soiree.  Happened.

3)  3 day cleanse = fail.  However, I rocked a one day cleanse with JuiceCrafters.  And, I found my accountability partner in my rad friend, Kristina Gong for a 3 day cleanse post 11/11.  She is rocking the Malibu 1/2, too!  Post run, bring on the juice!

4)  Chris and I did not make 2 dates.  Shoot!  Travel schedule, life, sweatpants + flannel… however, we did have one amazing date with delish food, red wine and an impulse purchase including blue leopard print jeans!  I just love love.

5) My blog friends challenged me to not accept any plastic bags for the month.  I can happily say, DONE!  I even carried broccoli in my backpack!  #gogreen

Recap:  October was absolutely unreal.  I goal coached at Yoga Journal Conference in our future life state of Colorado with the boyfriend in the audience, I cheered on one Ironman of a goal crusher at KONA 2012 and swung in a  hammock in Maui, I rocked Seattle with my team of 2 and ran with my sweet pup along the Pacific Ocean often.  I lived a full life this past October.

Let’s do it again!

In the beautiful month of November that is full of gratitude, my favorite people’s birthdays and family love; let’s get intentional here and now:

1)  I raise 500.00 for Movember with my team, “All the Eggs and Bacon You Have”.  Check it:  here.

2)  I am feeling some ink.  #tattoo

3)  I complete the Malibu 1/2 Marathon in sub 2 hours.

4)  Photo Shoot.  Charlie Brown lights.  Holiday Cards to PRINT.  Must happen.

5)   jackicarr.com goes LIVE by November 30, 2012.

6)  How will you know November?  Tell me about how we can rock gratitude, let’s get accountable!

Inspire me in the comments and share, share, share what you are going to get up to this month!

Let’s live life bigger.  Go!

Gratitude. Moustaches. Love.  November.

Believe Harder

I woke up this morning in Maui.

I wish you were here.

Yes, you.

The sweet smell of salt air and the sound of crashing waves sneak in the open windows.  I am surrounded by a Canadian tribe of radical people up to really big, amazing lives rocking human impact.  And, I have a bit of a hangover due to over-celebration of an uber athlete of a friend crushing her goals and rocking the Ironman World Championship in Kona.

It is a beautiful life.

And, I have a hard time believing this is my life, that I deserve this, that I am really here.

Believe harder, I tell myself.

Believe harder and own these moments of absolute gratitude, love and joy to be alive.  So alive.

Believe harder so you can stop asking if it is really real and actually be in the present moment.

Believe harder and know that you attract and you choose this life.  Own it.  Be it. Rock it.

Wow.

I so wish you were here.

Make It Happen. Move it Up!

Do you know that feeling, that feeling when you literally feel the goal in your body?  My first trip to Estes Park, CO 3 years ago felt like this.

How about when a goal moves you?  Tears, smiling, joyous joy, and oh so thankful. My second trip to Estes Park, CO last year, felt like this.

How about when you become the goal?  100% you are it!  Physically, mentally and emotionally.  Mind+Body+Spirit.  Boom.  This past weekend, I again made the trek to Estes Park, CO.  And this time, it was beyond real.  My mountain man of a bearded boyfriend came with me, puff vest and all.  I rocked my life goals, puff vest and all, surrounded by the Rocky Mountains, yoga-ing, connecting and goal coaching at the Yoga Journal Conference with lululemon#joblove   Chris explored Denver, Boulder and Estes Park for future adventures, future neighborhoods, and future friends.

And,

life

felt

so

connected.

So right on.

And then, just like that, the goal moved.  Whereas in years past, the goal has always moved me.  This year, we moved the goal.  It moved up!  Chris and I + Bear will be Colorado residents by November, 2013.

Ask yourself, ‘What is holding me (us) back?’.

Get real.

Feel a Goal.

Vibrate.

Right now.

Connect.

Move.

Make it Happen.

Create YOUR life.  Now.

Guest Post: Off the Mat, Into the World

Guest Post written by my yogi friend in Colorado, an artistic human to the max and an inspiring goal setter, Carolyn Levine (last name pronounced like ‘divine’).  Read on and get real:

____________________________________________________________________

Hello fellow adventure-seekers and lovers-of-life!

I am Carolyn Levine and I am beyond stoked to be able to share my goal with you today. In January of this year, I declared my biggest, hairy-est, most audacious goal to date: I committed to The Global Seva Challenge, a program of Off the Mat, Into the World, and pledged to raise $20,000 by December 31st!  I am here to ask you to help me crush my goal.

Proceeds from my challenge go towards organizations in India that are working towards eradicating human trafficking (a.k.a. slavery) and programs to educate and empower former sex slaves.

The fact that slavery still exists in 2012, and on an enormous scale, is outrageous to me, which is why I’m taking action to put an end to it. If you agree that slavery is bogus, let’s rock this goal together!

How can you help?

1. Donate. The easiest way to make a direct impact is to make a tax-deductible donation in my name, Carolyn Levine, on the Give to Global Seva page on the OTM website.* If every one of Jacki’s 2,468 Facebook friends (yep, I checked and she’s that popular!) donated just $10, we could CRUSH my goal.

 2.  Accessorize. Buy a bracelet for yourself or for a friend; they make great gifts (Christmas and Hanukkah are right around the corner)! They’re $15 each and 100% of the proceeds go to OTM. To order a bracelet, send me an email with your address and color preference and I’ll mail one right to your door!

3. Spread the word. Let your friends and family know about my goal and the cause. Send an email or a tweet, post it on Facebook, or heck, have a good ol’ face-to-face conversation with someone! Send along a link to my website, where I talk more about my commitment here.

The most important thing we can do is to make people aware that slavery is still rampant around the World and that it is unacceptable! Empower your friends and family to do something about it by donating to Off the Mat.  Together, we will easily raise over $20,000 in the next three months!

Thank you so much for reading about my goal and for helping me to crush it!

NOTE:  You can also mail a check (minimum $50) with my name on the memo line to:  Off the Mat, Into the World®, Attn: Global Seva Challenge, P.O. Box 14908, San Francisco, CA 94114

Surround Yourself with People Who…

with people who inspire you.

with people who challenge the sh*t out of you.

with people who radically love you.

with people who create space in your life.

with people who make you smile, laugh, feel really good.

with people who support you.

with people who are honest.  Always honest.

And then, you be that person for them.

This one, I am for real.  #choice

Let’s ROCKtober!

Hey there over there!  Happy October!

I just love the first day of the month, it feels so fresh and open.

Update on life from New Years in September: Accountability, here we go:

1)  Paleo Living.  I will say I did really great until this past weekend when my best friend came in town and we sipped a little bit of sweet berry wine (weakness).  Shoot.   I believe I am a more of an “eat Paleo” challenger, not “drink paleo” lifer.

2) Write every day in September on Adventures for Life.  Are you sick of me yet, because this goal is en fuego!  Thank you to my guest contributors that dropped knowledge and shared in the goal.   #iamawriter

3)  Run 2x/week with Chris + Bear = epic FAIL.  I overshot this one big time.  With Chris’ crazy schedule and my love of yoga, spin, crossfit intro classes and hiking, the committed runs took a backseat.

4)  Life brand created. Check.  Sent to print, nope.  Even better, sent to be made into a stamp.  BOOM!  And, I bought a website!  Unveil soon.  #action

5) Volunteer.  Rocked Reading to Kids and picked up trash on California Coastal Clean Up Day with Heal the Bay, Naam Yoga and Whole Foods.  #service

So, that was rad.  My September was full on and full awesome.

Now, let’s ROCKtober!  Like this:

1)  I train for the Malibu 1/2 Marathon in November.  Goal:  sub 2 hours.  40 days to go!  You with me or what, boyfriend?

2)  Friends + pumpkins + hosting = HAPPY FALLIDAYS!   Fall Soiree to be had in October chez moi.

3)  I complete a 3 day cleanse with JuiceCraftersAny takers?  #accountabilitypartner

4)  Chris and I go on two smokin’ hot dates this month.  NOTE:  No lululemon athletica wardrobe allowed.  #dressup  #tricky

5)  YOU tell me.  In the words of the King of Pop, I Wanna Rock with You!  #inspiredgoals

Share in the comments what you are going to get up to and I will pick a favorite and do it with you!

BOOM!  Let’s ROCKtober!

Guest Post: Dear New York City

Guest Blog written today by a goal crusher, one fast marathon runner, and a woman I once claimed ‘smiles so much she must shit butterflies every day of her life’, the amazing Molly Paterno.  She is literally living her goals, rocking her dreams and the car is packed to move from LA to NYC this weekend.  Read on, enjoy and share: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________”

Dear New York City,

May 15, 2000:   Our first encounter was on Saturday afternoon on Broadway and 42nd Street.  You, in thick black coat & red scarf, were on your way to rehearsal. Something about you just drove me insane.  I could feel your energy in the one, one thousand, two, one thousand seconds, when we locked eyes at the crosswalk. Although I neglected to strike up a conversation, I had a feeling we’d meet again. I was confident this was to be the first of the many times our paths would cross.

Dear New York City,

June 23, 2008:  Can you believe it took me nearly seven years to come see you again?  I had a few pictures placed in my journal to remember you by:  Times Square, theater shows, restaurants, even the Broadway street sign where we first met at 42nd! Seven years later and I feel about 30 years older.  Your charm, I once experienced, seemed non-existent. All I saw were your streets.  Scattered with one big groundhogs day adult lives, filled with suits, power points, and topped off by luke warm office coffee pots. Sometimes you can feel so surrounded and alone, all at the same time. But then, you did it. You took me for my first run in Central Park.  How long did we go for? Was it 2 hours? We ran and ran, got lost but didn’t panic. Instead we stopped for a Coke and a nap on the Great Lawn. You assured me that if you allow yourself to run wild, indulge sugary drinks, and nap in green grass, that the real world does not strip you of childish play.

Dear New York City,

August 12, 2009: You inspire me with creativity and humor. You sold me a $7 ticket and gave a friendly wink. I think you were surprised that I was interested? I spent an hour walking around that big beautiful building. Oh the paintings and the colors, so different than what I had anticipated. Thank you for asking me if I was lost, pointing me in the right direction, and for laughing. LOUD. Can you believe I was trying to go to the Museum of Modern Art but instead ended up with you next door at the Museum of Folk Art? That was so silly. You showed me that creativity, expression, and inspiration is everywhere – be it an accidental encounter, the building next door, or the person chain smoking outside across the street…..

Dear New York City,

July 20, 2011:  I feel so alive when I’m with you. It’s like I can’t stop moving when you’re around. I just want to soak up every moment we spend together. Our 4am subway rides, secret park concerts, dancing until 5am,  lucky $25 front row tickets to live theater, art, fashion & fashionable people, street festivals, coffee with strangers that are actually not so strange after hour-long latte conversations, that one time we had a crab cookout on the 4th of July and fell in love Down Under the Manhattan Bridge on the very same day….we’ve done so much! But gosh, I don’t feel like we’ve even brushed the surface.

Dear New York City,

September 23th, 2012:  Did I tell you?  I’ll be coming to see you again in a week. Only this time, it’s as permanent. Well, as permanent as permanent can be, which is really not that permanent at all, I suppose. Anyway, I’ll be coming for more time with you. I’m packing a few things, but you said I don’t need much. I’m grateful to have a friend like you….so generous. You always find a way to make sure I’m taken care of. Even if I was homeless in Central Park, you would probably send me a blanket! Can I bring you anything from the California Coast? Let me know.  NOTE: palm trees don’t fit in carry-ons.

Dear NYC (Can I call you that? I think we’re on nickname basis already),

September 24th, 2012:  I’m counting down the minutes until we reunite. So many more experiences to come, stories of you and I to write. I have some important questions for you and am sitting here wondering – what will our next adventure be? Where will we go, will we explore? What part of town will we live in? Who will we meet and where will we wander?  Most importantly, how big shall we DREAM and what will we DARE to do together?

Dear YOU,

September 25, 2012 (today):  Will you share your NYC with me? Help me create a “top 100” New York City bucket list:

1.

2.

3.

4.

5.

SHARE, SHARE, SHARE in the comment section:  your secret spots, your favorite neighborhoods, your Dear New York moments, epic NYC adventures, where you dance, sweat, eat and play, live a delicious life….

Guest Post: A Dreamer I Shall Remain

Guest Blog written today by a Texas heartbeat, an endless supply of compassion + empathy and a dear friend, Sam Biveouner.  She is playing a big game of life and can be found on her blog, Feeling WholeRead on and enjoy: ____________________________________________________________________________________________________”Do “Do those stars on your feet mean you’re a dancer?” An older gentleman in the waiting room of a doctor’s office asked me as he pointed to the star tattoos on my foot.

“No. They mean I’m a dreamer.” I respond.

“Ahhhh… a dreamer you say? Stay that way,” he said and went back to reading his magazine.

A dreamer I am… and shall remain. I love when the Universe sends me little reminders like this!

We’re always dreaming, are we not? When you’re in the office at your desk you may drift away to a tropical island where you are sailing along the coast on a beautiful boat with your most cherished friends and family. When you watch the Academy Awards, you sit and take notes for what your acceptance speech will sound like when you win Actor of the Year.

Dreams are only unreachable if you say they are. What stops us from achieving our wildest dreams? Excuses do. Maybe its money, social class, or where we live, we’ve all made excuses for not living a BIG life.  Stop making them! Believe in yourself and your goals and take steps towards achieving them.

What I love most about goal setting is that I get to write my dreams down on paper for the World to see and hold me accountable for taking steps towards. If I want to lose weight, I need to make healthy food choices. If I want to earn more money, I may need to invest in self development. If I want to be a writer, I better keep blogging for practice!

When you share your goals and achieve them, others they can be inspired by you. As a result, they set goals, knock ‘em out and inspire others. Pretty soon it’s catching on, spreading like wildfire. This is how we change the World. And we do it one goal at a time.

So don’t be afraid to dream, and dream BIG… be inspired and inspire those around you. I read a quote recently that reignited a fire in me to move my dreams to reality…enjoy!

Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.

-Harriet Tubman

Dream on, friends.
